EzLicence alternatives for UK driving instructors
EzLicence is not really software, it is a pupil supply channel that takes roughly 25% of every lesson booked through it. Instructors leave when they work out what that costs over a year. Here is what to move to.
The short answer
The best all-round alternative to EzLicence for most UK instructors is Passly, at £14.99 a month with online booking, card payments, pupil records, progress tracking, lesson gap filling and a free marketplace listing on one plan, plus a published flat 1.5% fee on lesson payments.

Why instructors leave EzLicence
- A commission of roughly 25% on each lesson booked is by far the most expensive way to acquire pupils in this market. On a £38 lesson that is about £9.50 gone every time.
- It supplies pupils but does not run your business: no proper diary, accounts, progress tracking or pupil records to replace what you already need.
- Coverage is weighted towards London and the larger cities, so instructors elsewhere often see thin volume for the commission they pay.
- The pupils are the platform's relationship, not yours, which limits what happens when you leave.

When you should stay with EzLicence
If you are starting out with an empty diary in a city where EzLicence has real learner volume, paying commission on lessons you would not otherwise have is defensible for a while. It is a customer acquisition cost, not a software cost, and it beats an empty week. The mistake is leaving it running once your diary is full.

How to switch without losing anything
- Export before you cancel. Your data is easiest to get while the account is still live. Pull pupils, lesson history and payment records now, not after you stop paying.
- Run both for a fortnight. Start a Passly trial and put a handful of pupils through it while EzLicence keeps running. No card is needed and there is no contract, so nothing forces the decision early.
- Move the pupils, then the money. Import your pupil list, share the portal link so learners can see their own lessons and balances, and only switch payments across once the diary is settled.
- Cancel in writing if the terms demand it. Check the notice period. Some agreements make fees non-refundable and require written notice, so a phone call may not stop the next charge.

How much does switching from EzLicence cost?
The subscription difference is usually the small part. What matters is the fee on your lesson money and whether leads are included.
