Total Drive is the most feature-dense instructor app in the UK, and instructors still leave it. Usually over tiering, the unpublished card payment fee, or paying for teaching aids they never open. Here is the honest shortlist, including when you should stay.
The short answer

Why instructors leave Total Drive
- Online booking and the enhanced gap tools sit on the upper tiers, so the plan that actually does what you want is nearer £26 than the advertised £18.
- The platform fee on card payments is set at sign-up rather than published, so you cannot compare the true monthly cost against anything else before committing.
- The subscriber agreement makes fees non-refundable and provides a data backup only on written request within a fixed window after you leave.
- You are paying for depth you do not use: 3D videos, the doodlepad and the theory suite are excellent and irrelevant if you teach without visual aids.

When you should stay with Total Drive
If you work in poor-signal areas, Total Drive's offline mode has no equivalent in this list, and losing it will hurt. If your bookkeeping runs on QuickBooks or Xero, its direct sync is the best accounting integration in the market and every alternative here will move you back to CSV exports. Those two things are worth more than the price difference to a lot of instructors.

How to switch without losing anything
- Export before you cancel. Your data is easiest to get while the account is still live. Pull pupils, lesson history and payment records now, not after you stop paying.
- Run both for a fortnight. Start a Passly trial and put a handful of pupils through it while Total Drive keeps running. No card is needed and there is no contract, so nothing forces the decision early.
- Move the pupils, then the money. Import your pupil list, share the portal link so learners can see their own lessons and balances, and only switch payments across once the diary is settled.
